Do your premises need rewiring?

Our electricians can carry out a periodic electrical test and inspection on your property to determine its condition. Cables, switches,socket-outlets and other accessories deteriorate with use and misuse and require regular checking.All houses should have their electrical systems checked at least every ten years. Commercial properties every 5 years or less in some cases.

 

There are several indicators that an experienced electrician will look for to determine the age of your electrical system and whether your property needs rewiring:

 

Spot the signs:

Cables coated in black rubber-black rubber was phased out in the 1960's. Cables coated in lead or a fabric are even older. Modern cables use PVC insulation.

 

A fusebox with a wooden back, cast iron switches, a haphazard mixture of circuit boxes.

 

Older round pin sockets and round light switches, braided flex hanging from ceiling roses to light fittings, black switches, sockets mounted in skirting boards.

 

Wall mounted light switches in bathrooms.

Consumer Unit Upgrade

Your consumer unit is the main distribution point for the electrics in your property, it contains devices to make your electrical installation safe.

 

If you have an old fuse board with rewireable fuses it is generally recommended that these be upgraded. Modern devices are much more convenient; they are much easier and sfer to reset in the event of an overlaod.

 

Modern protective devices (MCB'S) provide quicker response times in an overload condition.

 

Also residual current devices(RCD'S) protect against earth leakage; RCD'S trip in the event of an earth fault which can either be due to damage to cables, accessories or appliances.RCD'S also provide protection in the event of a person making contact with a live cable.
